The History of Starbucks

Starbucks is a coffeehouse chain with thousands of locations across the world. It is known for its variety of beverages, including espresso, full-and loose-leaf tea, pastries, snacks, and more. The company also owns a number of niche businesses, such as Evolution Fresh juice and Teavana tea. Aside from its traditional offerings, Starbucks has introduced several new products over the years.

Starbucks first opened in Seattle, Washington. It started with selling Peet’s gourmet coffee beans. After a few years, the company roasted its own coffee. As its popularity grew, Starbucks expanded into other cities. In 1984, the chain purchased Peet’s for $3.8 million. This allowed Starbucks to begin selling its own brewed coffee.

However, it wasn’t until 1986 that Howard Schultz took the helm as the company’s chief executive. His plans to create a national coffeehouse chain were met with skepticism by executives. He decided to pursue another venture, Il Giornale, or “the newspaper” in Italian.

The idea for the beverage was based on the classic novel Moby Dick. When Howard Schultz visited Italy, he was impressed by the cafes. On his return to the U.S., he had a vision of a coffeehouse chain that would offer top-quality coffee and equipment.
